When an unexpected call comes from a teenager incarcerated in a New York jail, Bree learns to her dismay that a fumbling sexual encounter 17 years before (when she was a he) resulted in the birth of a son. Though Bree wants nothing to do with the teenage runaway, her therapist tells her she must face her past before she'll authorize Bree's surgery. Bree reluctantly journeys to New York and bails her wild son Toby out of jail - but without revealing to him her true identity. When she learns that Toby plans to skip bail and search for his real father, Bree panics - and finds herself setting out on a remarkable cross-country journey.
